DC Water Lead Pipe Replacement Assistance (LPRAP) Program
What is LPRAP?
The Lead Pipe Replacement Assistance Program (LPRAP) is one of several DC Water initiatives to remove lead service lines from homes across Washington DC. Lead pipes were commonly used in homes built before the 1980s to connect the public water supply to the plumbing inside homes. Today, these lead lines pose serious health and environmental risks.
LPRAP assistance is available to homeowners who have lead, brass, or galvanized service lines on private property, but already have copper on public side of the water service.
Homeowners with lead, brass, or galvanized pipes on private property, but copper pipes on the public side, may qualify for 100% financial assistance to remove and replace their private-side lead water pipes.
Do I Qualify?
Click the map and enter your address to see if you qualify. If your address shows a link to the DOEE LPRAP application, then you qualify!

Why Should I Participate?
Replacing your lead service line is a major step in protecting your household from lead contamination in drinking water. The risks of lead exposure are highest for children and pregnant women, and prolonged exposure can lead to developmental delays, learning disabilities, and other serious health problems.
No Cost to You: LPRAP 100% subsidy for participating homeowners replacing lead service lines

All Set for Work? Here’s What to Expect:
We suggest that you plan the work to take three days. The first day will be the primary work day. During this day, you will likely be without water for 2 hours mid-day while the team connects the new pipe to the house. The second day is a buffer, in case our schedule shifts due to unforeseen delays. On rare occasions, for more complicated projects, we’ll need both days for the line replacement. The third day will be the inspection, backfill, and restoration.
DC Water should send you a package at some point prior to work – feel free to open this! They provide water filters for you to use prior to the line replacement. In addition, we’ll have the utility companies come out to mark underground utilities at some point in the weeks leading up to the start date. They will use eco-friendly paint or colored flags for this purpose. We’ll also post signs to reserve parking in front of your property shortly prior to the start date.
After the work is complete, we’ll send you a full report of your project including photos for your records.
